Contemporary American Printmakers |
A few days ago I came across the book Contemporary American Printmakers. It is one of those books that once you open it you can not help but browse. Displays the inspiring work of a good selection of printmakers and print shops of USA artists.
The authors of Contemporary American Printmakers are E. Ashley Rooney and Stephanie Standish. The book is published by Schiffer Publishing.

The book has two main parts. In the first, we find a selection of 75 printmakers and each is presented a brief biographical statement and profile, along with 4 or 5 pictures of their work. Feature the works of Todd Anderson, Catherine Kernan, Jeremy Lundquist, David Mohallatee, Rob Swainston and Laura Berman -whose interview we have done is published soon.

In the second part of the book, we find a selection of 31 print shops and each of them shows a review of itinerary with images that show work done and its facilities.
Why do I recommend it? I will highlight just two reasons. Because it shows the work done with various printing techniques of different contemporary artists: lithographs, intaglios, monoprints, monoprints relief, japanese woodblock method, screenprints, collagraphs, linocuts... And because the book is like a portfolio where it is found that the embossing, engraving or printing are living techniques that adapt to contemporary artistic language.
